How Do I Become an Electrical Apprentice?

Becoming an electrical apprentice at Northstar Technical Center is a wise choice!

Minimum Age: 16 with a high school diploma or GED equivelant. 

Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.

Educational Requirements: A high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) equivalency, or other high school equivalency credential is required. 

 

Physical Requirement: Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the registered apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others. 

 

Applicants chosen from the interview process must pass the PA DOT Medical Exam performed by a Certified Medical Examiner. The exam with urinalysis reviews past and current illnesses, surgeries, medications, and use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and blood pressure and certifies that the applicant has at least 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without corrective lenses), peripheral vision at least 70° in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and is able to distinguish red, green, and amber traffic signals. 

 

Applicant must perceive a forced whisper at 5 feet in at least one ear (with or without hearing aid) or pass an audiometric test meeting FMCSA standards.
